Divorce is complicated, even under the most amicable circumstances. Yet when the divorcing spouses are famous and the wife is due to deliver another man's baby before the divorce is final, that's more complicated than the norm.
This situation is just some of the recent news that has surfaced in regards to celebrity Kim Kardashian. Currently, Kardashian is in the midst of a divorce with professional basketball player Kris Humphries. With rumors gathering that their marriage was a large publicity stunt, Kardashian is now refusing Humphries' request for an annulment. Sources are suggesting the two are enjoying the publicity they're each receiving from the ongoing divorce and the out-of-wedlock pregnancy.
The court apparently has no reason to move up the court date for the couple. There are no urgencies in this case thus far and the court rarely makes exceptions, regardless of whether an individual or couple is of celebrity status or not.
The couple is scheduled to be back in court in the next several weeks, though sources say the divorce is likely to drag out. Kardashian is apparently refusing all her husband's requests, especially the annulment, seemingly because she fears the implication that her marriage was a lie will affect her brand. However, she recently released news that she is pregnant with current boyfriend Kanye West's baby. With the baby due in early summer, her reluctance is likely to result in her still being married to Humphries when she gives birth to West's baby.
One option the couple could pursue would be to hire a retired judicial officer, something that may be cost prohibitive for the average couple, but not necessarily so for Humphries and Kardashian. For the more traditional problems that most divorcing couples encounter, a family law attorney may be of the most help.
